WE DID IT!
Saint Petersburg Aquatics has been awarded Silver Medal status for 2015!
It is the 5th year in a row and 6 of the last 7 years that SPA has achieved this status (The team did not make application in 2010). The program recognizes clubs for their commitment to performance excellence and is based on the performance of 18 & under athletes on the team. Only long course times equal to or faster than the USAS Junior National times are used. Each performance is awarded a point value and those points added together provide a ranking for the team. SPA finished in 39th place in the country with 10,624 points. The top 20 teams are awarded Gold Medal status, the next 80 are awarded Silver Medal status and the next 100 clubs are awarded Bronze Medal status. The recognition also brings a financial benefit as Gold and Silver Medal teams are eligible for grants from USA Swimming. In years past the total amount of monies distributed was $350,000. For 2015, this amount has been significantly increased to $450,000.
