Meet Our Olympic Trial Qualifiers
Megan Romano, 24
2016 marks Megan’s third Olympic Trials. She began swimming at age 6. A former USA Swimming National Team member (2013-14) Megan has represented the USA at the 2008 World Junior National Championships, the 2011 and 2013 World University Games, the 2012 FINA SCM World Championships, and the 2013 FINA World Championships where she anchored two gold medal relays.
A graduate of the University of Georgia, Megan was a member of their 2013 NCAA National Championship team and in 2012 claimed an individual championship in the 200-yard freestyle in what at the time was an American record 1:41.21. Turning professional after college, Megan recently moved to South Florida to continue her training with several other professional swimmers in preparation for trials.
Melanie Margalis, 24
Melanie will be competing in her third Olympic Trials. The younger sister of Robert Margalis, Melanie is a current (2015-16) member of the USA Swimming National Team. She represented the USA at the 2013 World University Games, the 2014 Pan Pacifics, the 2014 FINA SCM World Championships, the 2015 FINA World Championships and most recently in the 2015 Mutual of Omaha Dual in the Pool competition where she won the 200M Breaststroke.
Melanie is a graduate of the University of Georgia and a member of the 2013 and 2014 NCAA National Championship teams. She turned professional after college and has continued her training at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia.
Autumn Finke, 21
2016 will be Autumn’s first Olympic Trials. She has competed in both open water and pool events at the national level. She finished 8th in the 1500M Freestyle at the 2012 U.S. Open and was a member of the 5th place 4x200M relay team at the same meet.
Autumn is currently a Junior at and swims for the University of Florida. In 2015, she competed in her first NCAA Championships in the 500 and 1650 Yard Freestyles. Autumn is known for her achievements in the classroom as well as the pool. She has been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll for 2013-14 and 2014-15, a 2015 CSCAA Scholar All-American, the 2015 Florida Lettermen’s Association Scholar of the Year, and a UF Anderson Scholar. Autumn continues her training at the University of Florida.
Calvin Bryant, 20
Calvin will be competing in his first Olympic Trials in 2016. A true distance swimmer in the pool, Calvin is a relative newcomer to the national stage. He competed at the 2014 Orlando Grand Prix qualifying for the 2014 Conoco-Phillips US Nationals. He competed in both the 2014 and 2015 Conoco-Phillips US Nationals and achieved his Trial cut in the 1500M Freestyle at the 2014 national meet.
Currently, Calvin is a Sophomore at and swims for Florida State University. He ranks 7th in the 500-yard Freestyle and 10th in the 1650 yard Freestyle in FSU history. Calvin continues his training in Tallahassee at FSU.
Summer Finke, 19
Summer returns to Omaha for her second Olympic Trials in 2016. She has been competing at the national level since the age of 13 when she qualified for her first National Championships and the 2012 Olympic Trials. She is a member of the 2015-16 USA Swimming Junior National Team and competes in both open water and pool events at the national level.
A multiple state finalist for Countryside High School, Summer is a freshman at and swims for Florida State University where she owns the team’s top times in the 500, 1000, and 1650 yard freestyles for 2015-16. Summer was recently named to FSU’s Dean’s List for her first college semester. She is a 3-time USAS Scholastic All-American. She continues her training at Florida State University in Tallahassee.
Peyton Palsha, 16
The most recent of SPA trial qualifiers, 2016 marks Peyton’s first Olympic Trials competition. She competed at the 2015 USAS SPEEDO Long Course Junior Nationals and the 2016 Arena Pro Series meet in Orlando. At the 2016 Florida Swimming Short Course Senior Championships, Peyton took three first place finishes.
Peyton is a 2014-15 USAS Scholastic All-American. She will be a senior at St. Petersburg High School this coming year where she is a multiple state finalist. Peyton continues training under Coach Lewis at North Shore Pool.
Robert Finke, 16
Robert will be swimming in his first Olympic Trials in 2016. He competes in both open water and pool events and is the 2015 US Junior National Champion in the 5K Open Water event. At the 2015 Orlando Arena Pro Swim Series meet he placed 3rd in the 1500M Freestyle and finished 16th in the same event at the 2015 Conoco-Phillips National Championships.
Most recently Robert was invited to and attended the USAS National Select Camp at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Robert is a Sophomore at Countryside High School in Clearwater and continues his training at North Shore Pool.
